The Permanent Population and Households’ Census restarts in October 2019 and involves one million 400 thousand families in 2800 Italian municipalities.
Until 2021, every municipality will take part in the new census at least once.
Data and information gathering will be conducted through a collection list with an online survey or by means of an area survey, which involves a personal visit from a surveyor from the Census Bureau.
Families belonging to the list will receive a detailed letter about the online survey, which has to be filled out by accessing Istat’s website by using personal credentials.
For support on filling in the survey you can call the toll-free number 800 188 802 or go to one of the Municipal Census Bureau.
In some areas of the country, however, families notified by means of posters and standardised letters will be visited by a surveyor and can choose to respond to the interview at home or go to the local Municipality in order to fill out the questionnaire.
What is in the Survey?
- A List and individual factsheets section, including socio-economic questions about each family member.
- A Housing section, including questions about the characteristics of the house, the building and the availability of vehicles and parking spaces.
- A Final Information section with questions on how to fill in the questionnaire and the communication channels.
Responding to the Census is a legal obligation.
